Outstanding Achievement Award

Curved Canopy Roof

Kolorful Kanvas Ltd.

The client wanted to cover his wooden pergola in Parklands, Christchurch, New Zealand, with a cover that would still allow light through so he could still enjoy the outdoors if it was raining.

The pergola frame was flat, with a span of 5.5m and in some parts not square (had angle sections). Kolorful Kanvas needed to come up with a design that would allow rain to run off, be structurally strong and look good.

A curved steel frame was designed so the height of the structure would be kept low to look good and enhance the area, did not look out of place and allow maximum runoff for rain. Sundream translucent PVC was chosen for the cover to let light through.

The frame was made from 60mm galvanized steel, abd the ribs were rolled by a local engineer. The frame was then pre-cut, taken to site and pre-fitted so we could ensure that all angles and curves fitted perfectly.

The frame was then welded together. Parts of the frame were made sleevable which allowed Kolorful Kanvas to tension the cover on-site. All parts were then powder coated to match existing trim.

The curve not only looked good but gave strength, which allowed Kolorful Kanvas to tension the PVC drum tight over the frame, eliminating any flapping.

The end result was stunning and the customer was very happy.
