Lake Gaston Awning

The client recently built an unattached sunroom at his lakefront home in Henrico, N.C. Building officials would not allow an attached sunroom or anything to be attached to the sunroom. The problem was that when it rained, there was no protection going between the sunroom and the house. In addition, he wanted to provide shade for his screened-in deck.

The solution was to fabricate an awning for his deck that projected out far enough to cover the steps and most of the path to the sunroom. This awning was a welded aluminum frame covered with Sunbrella® fabric. Lake Gaston Awning then proposed a slanted flat canopy to follow the contour of the sunroom roof, supported with two legs and attached to the deck and under the awning. The client was afraid this would block his view of the lake. The solution was to cover this second structure with clear vinyl that had a smoke tint to complement the sunroom glass. The second structure is supported on one end by the deck and two posts elevate it slightly above the sunroom without being attached.

The client remains dry and happy without missing a view. Lake Gaston Awning found a solution when no one else had one.
