The project was nine metal radius awnings fabricated out of 1" aluminum tubing and 24-gauge Galvalume® for an exterior metal system with an interior of a vinyl staple system.
The purpose was to give the building an architectural design as well as waterproof coverage for the sidewalks and entrances. The client requested an awning system that looked different from traditional awnings, one that would stand out and be noticed.
Two different types of awning systems were used in this unique awning project: metal and vinyl material staple. The complexity of the project was being able to fabricate an exterior radius structure and fasten the Galvalume to the structure without the metal sheets waffling. Five exterior 1" radius ribs were also installed to match the outside radius and conceal the fasteners. The inside radius vinyl staple system was challenging because it had to match the inside radius of the exterior frame.
The client was enthusiastic about the outcome, and the renovations and the exterior design of the building won a local recognition of a historical preservation award.
