Sleek Enclosure Design

Iverson’s Design

This is a cockpit enclosure on a Catalina sailboat. It was designed to be completely removable and fabricated in sectional panels allowing for maximum versatility during use. Its design is sleek, aerodynamic and well outfitted with special features like side grab rails, back grab rails, integrated storage pockets, overhead storage pocket with a flashlight, 1-¼-inch diameter stainless steel frame and window covers.

The purpose of this enclosure is to provide our clients with protection from the elements. Because our clients are avid sailors in the Northwest they wanted to be able to cruise on their boat year-round while staying warm and dry. They were insistent on keeping the enclosure sleek and aerodynamic; they did not want to have the look of what they referred to as “a box or a fishbowl.”

The complexity of this design came within our requirement to keep a sleek, elegant design while maintaining all the functionality aspects. Some of the specifications like headroom, ease of access in and out of the cockpit and removal of enclosure panels were factors that contributed to the overall design.

The results of this enclosure design were a success. Our client was thrilled that he had more usable space year-round on his boat. He even added a couple of heat vents into the cockpit to keep it heated on extremely cold days.
