Starcraft Pontoon

Paul’s Custom Canvas, Inc.

This project was to reupholster a hail damaged 22-foot Starcraft pontoon. We were challenged to create a new design for the client. Due to the hail damage we also had to fabricate new foam for the project.

This client’s boat interior was damaged by a hail storm. The client wanted to fix the damaged areas of the boat. After some discussion it was determined that it would look better to reupholster the entire boat. The client was not sure what design he wanted in the boat. He gave us freedom of design with some guidelines. The client wanted more of a straight line look to the seats to get away from the old design. We were able to produce a pattern that consisted mainly of straight lines but did not make the seats look as if they came out of a catalog.

After we explained the design to the client he had a good idea of what the finished project was going to look like. We made one of the smaller seats first and invited the client to our shop to get final approval before continuing. The client liked the seat and was excited to see how the rest of the boat would look when finished. The helm seat offered us a unique challenge - to keep with the design of the boat but to make the design fit the seat. The final results exceeded the client’s expectations.

The client remarked, “It came out better than I than I imagined it would.” He was so happy with the outcome that he took the boat by his wife’s work to show her before he took the boat home. Two days later the client called to schedule an appointment for a new storage cover.
