Marine upholstery

32 Fountain

Paul’s Custom Canvas, Inc.

This project was a complete upholstery in the cockpit of a 32-foot Fountain. The client had a specific design in mind; this challenged us to find new ways to produce the requested design. This project also required us to fabricate new foam.

The client bought the boat used and wanted to have the boat reupholstered with the addition of the Fountain logo on the headrests and the back sun pad. After some discussion with the client we decided, in the interest of longevity, to upholster the logos instead of embroider them into the seats and sun pad. The client also noticed that water would pool in the deep crevasses in the original seats. We redesigned the seats and fabricated new foam that did not hold the water but still held true to the original design.

Due to the complexity of the Fountain logo, we felt we could not reproduce it correctly by drawing it freehand. We traced the logo from the side of the boat and took it to a local print shop. The print shop was able to reduce the size of the logo for the headrest and produce the logo in a couple of larger sizes, and with various overlays, for the back sun pad. The headrest took 45 pieces to complete while the sun pad took over 90 pieces to complete. The total time to complete the job was 80 hours.

The client was extremely happy with the work and that the project was completed on time. Following this project the client then had us make a cockpit cover to protect the newly upholstered interior.
