The purpose of this project was to design, manufacture and install a unique custom awning for the opening of Dos Caminos (“two paths”) at The Sheraton Fort Lauderdale in the renovated Yankee Clipper. Located steps from the beach, it is the first Florida outpost for the New York-based chain. In keeping with the restaurant’s layout, the design called for outdoor seating on the open, oceanfront terrace. Ocean breeze and outdoor walking traffic is the ambiance.

The design called for a curved structure with no exposed under-frame. At the same time it had to have a drum-like tight finish. This meant that our one-piece fabric design had to fit like a glove, leaving no room for error. To achieve this we combined traditional lace and grommets as well as air-craft cable tensioning.

The client was very pleased with our concept and final installation. Since this project we have worked on and built two other awnings in other properties owned by the client.
