Outstanding Achievement Award

BCS Championship 2008

Eventstar Structures, Miami, Fla., United States

Eventstar Structures provided a custom structure of approximately 23,000 sq ft to house a cocktail event to host the teams, coaches and alumni of the LSU Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes, who were playing in the 2008 BCS National Championship.

The most unique aspect of this project was the installation. A 20-hour window was available for installation, which allowed for no mistakes. The client requested a new clear fabric ceiling roof, which meant prefabricating the panels without an opportunity for a trial installation. The structure was positioned so if it rained, water would drain onto the fountain at the back and onto the grass at the front. For the two gable sides and entrances that had no drain capabilities, 8" high water-filled inflatable barriers were placed. The customer wanted to use the existing floor, not a subfloor, and this was the only way to ensure that if it rained water would not enter the structure.

The event was a success and it showed that taking measures and good planning pays off.
