He Wants What?
Custom Canvas of Charleston, N. Charleston, S.C., United States
The purpose of this project was to build a bimini frame and canvas that would protect the client but still provide the flexibility he needed to reach the sail and boom, see the sail while underway, and not obstruct his way in and out of the cockpit. He specifically requested no straps or legs obstructing the sides of the cockpit, that the bimini attach to the dodger forward and have a cutout around the mast big enough to reach the cleats, six zippered openings to reach the boom and sail with fasteners to hold them open, and two forward-viewing windows that don’t interfere with the zippered openings.
This project was complex because of all the things the client needed the bimini to do. Because the client requested no legs or straps on the sides, the forward bow was held in place with a strap around the mast. The zippers and flaps needed to be laid out so the client could reach the boom, sail and sailcover when needed. Two viewing windows needed to be installed without interfering with the zippered openings. Triangular-shaped windows worked very well.
The client was extremely pleased that the project met all of his needs.
