Pedestrian Bamboo Bridge

Castro Rojas Ingenieros y Arquitectos Ltda., Bogotá, Cmarca, Colombia

The project is the cover for a pedestrian bamboo bridge at a main road crossing. Its purpose is to provide cover to a bridge built with an ecological material—bamboo—which cannot be left uncovered if a long life is desired. At the same time, it was important to create a sculptural element to mark the bridge’s location.

The challenge was to match the bamboo bridge geometry, which can vary depending on the labor used, so on-site measurements had to be taken. It was especially important to develop connection details between the steel cables and the bamboo elements.

The structure is not only appreciated by those who use it, but it has become an architectural icon in the city.
